Children’s Hospital is one of the nation’s leading children’s hospitals, treating and helping to prevent a full range of pediatric health issues from colds and broken bones to complex heart diseases and cancer with teams of experts in 30 pediatric and surgical specialties. The hospital is consistently ranked as one of the nation’s best children’s hospitals by U.S. News & World Report, ranked in 10 out of 10 pediatric specialties. Specifically, the hospital’s Patient- and Family-Centered Care Program provides an innovative approach to the planning, delivery and evaluation of healthcare and is grounded in mutually beneficial partnerships among patients, their families and their healthcare providers.

Kix Brooks, one-half of the country singing duo Brooks & Dunn, surprised attendees at the 5th annual emids Healthcare Summit on Nov. 14 by kicking off the event. The award-winning artist, radio host and entrepreneur is also well-known for his volunteer work. He describes being a member of the Children’s Hospital Advisory Board as one of his greatest joys. The Nashville music industry veteran has had a deep, longstanding commitment to the children and families for over 20 years at the Children’s Hospital.
“I’m not the best at just asking people for money, because I know the people that I’m asking — the people that can really give, that can really make a difference — are the same people that get asked for everything that needs help in Nashville,” says Brooks. “And they’re all worthy causes. So, what makes Children’s Hospital more important? All I know is what I’ve seen, and what’s in my heart.”
“There’s no single route to charitable giving,” says Brooks, “but a visit to Children’s Hospital can be a potent motivator for many, including artists and music industry executives.”
Because of this generous donation from Nashville-based emids and other Healthcare Summit sponsors – including Availity, myNEXUS, Lyft, CapStar Bank, Change Healthcare, DLA Piper, Jackson Lewis, OneOncology, Orthus Health and Privia Health – Children’s Hospital was able to purchase numerous iPads, four charging stations, a MacBook Pro and a 3D printer to enhance the Child Life, Hospital School and Music Therapy programs in the Patient- and Family-Centered Care Department. This technology will help promote a more positive patient experience by providing learning and play for children and their families while in the hospital, which can often be a stressful situation.
