emids Attends 2017 Health Datapalooza Conference

emids recently had the opportunity to attend the 2017 Health Datapalooza conference held in Washington, D.C., on April 27 and 28. There, emids leaders networked with a diverse group of professionals from both the public and private sectors to learn how to harness data to improve healthcare.

Topics of interest included healthcare consumerism and health policy, reports Rebekah Panepinto, Senior Director of Business Development for emids. Keynote speakers covered every angle ranging from how social media is making healthcare accessible to health payment reform. Tawfiq Alrabiah, Saudi Arabia Minister of Health, even provided an international perspective, explaining how the Saudi Arabian government used Uber drivers to deliver vaccines to patients’ homes. Tom Price, M.D., the newly appointed U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, delivered a keynote address about healthcare IT, specifically about the need for EHR interoperability.

While at Health Datapalooza, Panepinto and Allen Patin, Vice President of Consulting Services at emids, met with a variety of people, building relationships with potential collaborators and learning from experts. Panepinto attended the “Role of Cognitive and AI Technologies in the Digital Health Transportation” breakout session, which highlighted the progress of cognitive computing technologies and its role in healthcare, as well as emerging technologies. “Entrepreneurship was also celebrated in a breakout session, as seven healthcare entrepreneurs presented their latest business concepts targeted on harnessing data to provide better care”, Panepinto says.

Prior to attending the Health Datapalooza conference, Panepinto also attended the annual conference for the Network for Excellence in Health Innovation, a policy-oriented healthcare group, on April 25 in Washington, D.C.
